1860 Statistics for 19th Alabama Counties
Source: Alabama Dept. of Archives and History
The 19th Alabama Infantry Regiment, like most infantry regiments, had ten companies of about 100 men each. Six companies (D,E,F,G,H, and I) of the regiment were formed from men of Cherokee County, one company (A) from Pickens County, one company (C) from Jefferson County, and two companies (B and K) from Blount County. Certainly it seems the boys in the 19th Alabama could have uttered the phrase, "Rich man's war, poor man's fight!"
